Rich Morgan, Class of 1991, wrote me today with a request:
Fellow Alumni,
I started this online petition hoping to gather an
impressive number of signatures to convince Villanova's administration to
name the basketball court in the Pavilion the Paul Arizin Court.
I
tried the direct route, but was met with some opposition since the
university can make some money by selling naming rights to buildings,
courts, etc.. Many universities have named their basketball courts after a player or coach who was special to them: Duke, Syracuse, UCLA, LaSalle to name a few.
Paul Arizin's life is an example for current students and future generations. I hope you will join me in my efforts.
My response, as an alumnus and not a Chapter President, was:
I'm a huge fan of Paul Arizin's but I support the university on this
issue. I think it's more important to generate a revenue source to
keep Jay Wright from being courted by the Sixers et al.
I admire
what you're doing and would consider donating an annual sum to the
naming rights campaign should you strike a financial deal with the
University.
I hope you'll take my polite decline in the same
spirit that I took your valiant effort. I know that we both want the
best for Villanova Basketball.

As a Chapter President, I think this topic worthy of discussion and offered Rich Morgan our weblog as a forum; he graciously accepted.
