Tampa has a lot of great civic organizations, most visible of which is The Roughriders. Whether you serve the Tampa Bay community through Rotary, Kiwanis, The American Legion, your Church, or the many non-profits which feed the poor, clean our beaches, or reach out to newcomers, the marginalized, or the business community, we salute you.
We think there is a space for us in Tampa Bay.
We are an American fraternal organization, founded in Philadelphia in 1771. We celebrate and honor Irish culture in America but, as an American organization, we believe action in civic society is what makes America work, Florida thrive, and the Tampa Bay community one of the finest places to live in the world. We want to be at the center of that civic action in Tampa Bay.
Firstly, we want to continue the over 250-year tradition of a fraternal organization. We have businessmen who are members but we are not a business organization. We have veterans who are members but we are not a veterans organization. We have native Floridians who are members but we are not a "Native Sons" organization. We want to be a place, where men of good character, can form lifelong bonds with one another.
We are a fraternal organization first.
Secondly, we want to help the Tampa St. Patrick's Day parade. With over 40 million Americans claiming Irish heritage, 2.1 million of which live in Florida, we think it's important that this notable event continue, grow, and thrive. We are committed to helping raise funds for future parades. While we want to march in, and support other parades around the Tampa Bay area, we are an organization which celebrates Irish culture in Tampa Bay.
We are a cultural organization second.
Finally, we want to contribute to our community. Tampa Bay has been welcoming Americans of Irish descent, since Col. George Mercer Brooke established Fort Brooke on the shores of the Hillsborough River in 1824. With over 3 million people in the Tampa Bay area, we see a need for vibrant civic organization to be as welcoming to newcomers as you have been to us. More importantly, we think serving the 3 million plus existing residents helps to cement us into our home.
Finally, we are a civic organization.
