2016 Republican Party of San Diego County Central Committee Endorsements

Here are my endorsements for the Republican Party of San Diego County Central Committee, for the June 2016 ballot.  This is a four-year term and the members make up the governing body of the local party organization.  My criteria for endorsement are pretty simple:

1- I eliminate anyone with a potential conflict of interest in the endorsements process.
2- I favor incumbents who have a good voting record.
3- I endorse a few "first timers" who are established GOP volunteers and use good judgement.

My first 'condition" has caused me to eliminate some really good people from the process, a few of which are close friends.  It's not personal.  I think those elected officials are already serving the Republican effort in San Diego well.  I seek to expand the effort by bringing more volunteers into the governing process.  Note that I did NOT file for election.  I intend to remain active as a fundraiser for the local effort and don't want that bias on the Committee.  In short, I am practicing what I preach.  I'll have plenty of influence with the Committee but my vote would be biased.

71st Assembly District (East County):

All three are incumbents, each a volunteer, and I don't know enough about the rest of the field to offer an endorsement.

75th Assembly District (Northeast County)

Lee DeMeo is a movement conservative but he serves on two regional boards, one of which presents a conflict with the RPSDC meetings.    Debbie Lenson is a new member to the Committee and is a hard working conservative.  Regina Roberts is a dedicated activist for the Second Amendment and important leader in the Republican Party.

76th Assembly District

77th Assembly District

Krvaric is a superb chairman and, while he may not run for re-election for Chairman, he needs to be on the Committee.  Foulkrod is the current Secretary and a long-time volunteer.  Williams is one of the most dedicated  volunteers we have.  Schroeder and Rider are first-time candidates but were heavily involved in the Republican Liberty Caucus.  Richard Rider is a warrior for Liberty.  Carl DeMaio is a great choice.  If he ever runs for office, he should resign his Central Committee position; I have no doubt that he would do that

78th Assembly District

Dan Holstein

I served on and chaired this District for two years.  Incumbents Fay, DeGuzman, and Holstein are independent thinkers with years of experience; they should be re-elected.  Whelan was the County Chair of the Republican Women's Federated and Taylor Bloom is a rising and important voice in the County.  Jean Roesch is a long time committee member but missed a lot of meetings; she would be a good sixth vote

79th Assembly District-- I can only endorse Martha Doiron; I don't know nor recommend the other candidates.

Don't Hate The Playa, Hate The Game

Limited-government conservatives recognize that people make good incomes FROM the very regulations and taxes government imposes on free citizens. 

Our federal tax code and federal register of regulations are vast, cumbersome, and sometimes contradictory.  Businesses spend hundreds of hours, of what could be time inventing and producing products, finding or servicing customers, and hiring and training new employees.  Businesses spend money, which could otherwise be used for reserach and development, marketing, or training, to hire attorneys and accountants, to comply with the heavy hand of government.

I talk about how the Clinton Adminsitration provided mayoral candidate Carl DeMaio that opportunity, over of SDROSTRA:

Government quite literally “creates” jobs, non-productive jobs but jobs nonetheless, when it arrogates power reserved for free citizens.  Government provides opportunities for entrepreneurs, to make money, by being the solution to those government impositions on free citizens.

We see this in military contracts and municipal bond issues. Consultants make fortunes by securing miltary contracts for private companies or for securing bond issues for investment banks.  If the consulting firm is majority-owned by women and/or minorities, the fortune can be even larger.

Prior to casting the stone at any of the mayoral candidates (all of whom benefited from our growing government), consider how pervasive the government's reach is into your line of work.  Personally, my industry, mortgage banking, has been nursing at the federal teat for decades.

Imagine how productive we could be, if we simply did four things:

1. cut occupational licenses in half
2. cut the federal register in half
3. cut the corporate income tax to zero
4. eliminated the federal jobs associated wit that extra taxation and regulation

We'd be so busy making money, opening businesses, and hiring people, that we probably wouldn't worry that we STILL hadn't cut the size and scope of government enough.  It would be a heckuva start though.

Volunteer Activists Comprise the SDGOP Central Commitee

Why is it important to elect strong volunteers to the San Diego Republican Party Central Committee?

ANSWER:  We reject top-down governance in Washington and Sacramento.  Why would we stand for it in the San Diego Republican Party?  The Central Committee is comprised of volunteer activists, who represent the registered Republican voters in each Assembly District.  The job of the Committee is to:

• register more Republican voters in San Diego County
• raise money for issues and candidiates
• recruit good candidiates for public office
• endorse and promote those endorsed candidiates

That's a pretty straightforward mission statement.  Sometimes, elected officials try to keep the volunteer activists from performing their duty.  Today, on SDRostra.com, I requested that three of them stop intervening: 

Yesterday, an email was sent from “The Coalition to Retire Filner”, signed by State Senators Joel Anderson and Mark Wyland, and Assemblyman Brian Jones.  It dreams the dream Erica Holloway had about two Republican mayoral candidates in a runoff.  The “Coalition” makes an impassioned plea to the volunteer Republican Central Committee members:

“In order to establish and maintain that focus, we have come together to urge the Republican Party of San Diego County to refrain from forcing an endorsement in this race that will divide many of our most loyal and dedicated supporters, but instead to unify and focus on defeating Democrat Bob Filner in the primary.”

Why would three guys, who don’t even live in the City of San Diego, ask the volunteers to cancel an endorsement vote?  To answer that question, first ask “Cui Bono? ”
